HIFU- High intensity focused ultrasound

What is HIFU?
HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound) is a non-invasive skin tightening treatment that targets structural aging within the skin—without disrupting the surface. Instead of working top-down like many treatments, HIFU delivers energy deep into the dermis and superficial musculoaponeurotic system (SMAS)—the same foundational layer addressed in a surgical facelift.

  • It’s best suited for early to moderate skin laxity, where collagen decline—not excess skin—is the primary concern.

How does it work? (the science)
HIFU uses focused ultrasound energy to create precise thermal coagulation points at specific depths (typically 1.5mm, 3.0mm, and 4.5mm).

  • At these depths:
    • Tissue is rapidly heated to ~60–70°C
    • This creates controlled thermal injury zones without damaging the epidermis
    • The body initiates a wound-healing cascade

  • That cascade triggers:
    • Fibroblast activation
    • Neocollagenesis (new collagen formation)
    • Collagen remodeling and contraction

  • Over time, this leads to:
    • Increased dermal density
    • Improved elasticity
    • Gradual lifting and tightening as collagen fibers reorganize and shorten

  • What can HIFU improve?
Because it targets deeper structural layers, HIFU is ideal for:
    • Mild skin laxity in the lower face and jawline (jowling)
    • Lifting the brow and upper eyelid area
    • Tightening loose skin on the neck
    • Softening fine lines and wrinkles
    • Improving crepey texture on the chest

  • What happens during treatment?
The skin is cleansed, and a conductive gel is applied. A handheld device delivers precise ultrasound pulses in mapped patterns across the treatment area.
  • You may feel:
    • Heat
    • Tingling
    • Brief “zaps” as էնergy reaches deeper layers
  • This sensation reflects energy reaching the targeted structural depth, not the surface.
  • Treatment time typically ranges from 30–90 minutes, depending on the area.

  • Downtime + recovery
There is no true downtime because the epidermis remains intact.
    You may experience:
    • Mild redness
    • Slight swelling or tenderness
  • But most clients return to normal activity immediately.

  • How many sessions are needed?
    This depends on:
    • Degree of collagen loss
    • Skin laxity
    • Desired outcome

Most clients need 1–4 sessions, with results continuing to improve over 8–12 weeks as collagen remodeling progresses. More advanced laxity may require a series.
